Tranmere story
Birkenhead-born inside-forward Charlie McDonnell began in local football with Stork before joining Tranmere Rovers in 1957. He moved to Stockport County in 1961 and returned to Prenton Park for a second spell during the 1960s.
McDonnell later represented Southport and Glentoran. He died in June 2010, aged 73.
